hey Bodybuilder,
I’ve just done another interview with Vince Delmonte. Instead of going into more muscle building stuff, I decided to ask him all about his philosophy when it comes to burning fat.
We’re both believers in the same sort of approach, although Vince does things in a slightly different way, so I highly recommend you stop what you’re doing and have a read:
MH: hey Vince, thanks for agreeing on a second interview. I’m looking forward to squeezing some more info out of you. Last time we talked a lot about putting on muscle and how to go about that in the best way. This time I want to ask you a few questions about fat loss and how to get really ripped. First off, a lot of people will know you as the skinny guy who put on a heap of muscle, so can you tell us why people should listen to you when you start talking about fat loss? VD: I asked myself this question a few years ago and that’s when Peter Carvell stepped into my life. Have you seen his video transformation yet Muscle Head? I’m sure even you would drop your jaw!
Peter was cursed with horrible genes and transformed his 276 pounds of stubborn, ugly, belly fat into a stunning, sexy, rock hard body with eye popping abs in 24 weeks. It’s a transformation you’ll have to see to believe.
Helping Peter lose 100 pounds in six months convinced me that I can help anyone achieve the same results. Recently I just lost 23 pounds and competed at the World Fitness Model Championships. Check out my site http://clicks.aweber.com/y/ct/?lVv7&mlrzGodSRSgcxv &b=oE9eEeC9VfJC8yN5Q_1wvw to see Peter’s pics and my own transformation.
MH: I’ve got my own program on Fat Loss out there and I’ve based it mostly around diet, weight training and cardio. Would you mind giving us your take on the role those three play when it comes to fat loss? VD: Getting a six pack is totally DIET DIET DIET. Ask any pro fitness model or bodybuilder. Having a plan that is based on a caloric deficit and tells you exactly what to eat, in what amounts and what times is a huge starting point. You could run two marathons a day and still not lose fat if you’re not monitoring your calories and eating foods that STORE fat.
My weight training program has strength, function and conditioning all under one umbrella which is critical for finally burning the fat and getting a flat stomach and getting the trophy of all trophies - six pack abs! My philosophy is, “If you want to look fit then you must become fit,” so these workouts, unfortunately, are not easy but very exciting and challenging.
Cardio IS important but I ‘ve discovered what most people are doing it completely wrong. Outrageous amounts of cardio is actually the least effective way to burn fat and will push you further from your six pack instead of closer.
MH: I’ve noticed that when I cut down, the leaner I get, the harder it becomes. What advice do you have for people who are in the same boat? VD: Avoid broken focus. Stay truly committed to your goals and believe that EVERY little decision will move you closer or further to your brand new, sexy physique.
That extra hour of sleep, one missed meal, extra alcoholic beverage, one missed weight training session DOES make a difference when we’re talking about the last 5-10 pounds.
My best advice is to get stricter with your sugars - at least until you turn your four pack into a six pack - consider cutting hidden sugars like dairy and fruits.
Remind yourself, “It’s harder to get lean then it is to stay lean,” so applaud yourself because you’re almost there!
MH: I think out of all the things you have to do to get ripped, diet is the hardest to get right as well as stick to. Can you tell us both how you should structure your diet and also tell us how you manage to stick to what can be a pretty crazy diet? VD: Great question! Here is some advice:
1. Only shop for what’s on your meal plan. 2. Follow your meal plan to the letter. 3. Be prepared to limit social functions that equal too much temptation. 4. Have the mindset, “You have the rest of your life to eat treats but until you get your six pack - have a get ripped or die trying mentality” 5. Start your first meal at 6 am - for some reason starting to eat clean earlier in the day sets the stage for the rest of the day. 6. You got to know WHY you want a six pack - what’s your deep down driving motivation? To look good naked? For empowerment? Your health is suffering?
MH: I get questions all the time from people confused about cardio. It seems wherever you look there’s conflicting advice. What do you think is the answer Vince? Long cardio? Interval training? Prancing around in pink leotards with 5lb dumbbells? VD: There’s nothing wrong with prancing around in pink leotards if it works! LOL I have no idea what is the most effective for each person - they’ll have to figure out what works for themselves.
Here is what works for me. I use interval cardio (but my interval cardio sessions last 45-60 minutes… not 20 minutes like most people recommend) to blast off the big chucks of fat i.e. the first 10-20 pounds. But sometimes I’ll start a interval cardio workout and realize I’m just fried so I’ll improvise on the spot and do long and slow.
When I’m dialing down to low single digit body fat, like my most recent show, I was doing long slow cardio in the early AM and more long slow cardio after my weights in the evening. But realize I don’t do this all year round - just the last 2-4 weeks before I get on stage.
MH: What are some of your other top fat loss tips Vince? VD: Here are my top three:
1. Find a plan and follow it - that goes for weight training, cardio, nutrition and supplementation. The best program is the one you follow!
2. Don’t forget to keep dropping your calories. As you lose fat you’re body will need less and less so make sure you progress your calories from 3000 to 2800 to 2600 to 2400 as you drop and drop.
3. Set realistic goals - losing 1% fat per week is your standard. If you’re not dropping, change ONE variable in your program and monitor its effect. If it works, keep doing it. If it does not work, repeat the same process again until you keep dropping your 1% fat until you become that “guy” or “gal” at the beach or gym that turns heads!
MH: Now I know you’re about to release your own six pack program. I’ve had a look over it and I reckon you’ve done a great job, but for people who haven’t seen it, can you tell us a bit about it and why they should buy it over all the over programs out there? VD: I understand your friends may have used programs like mine before and are aware they many options. The biggest benefit of beginning Your Six Pack Quest is that I guarantee you’ll have a six pack in six months and you’re taking advice from someone who looks and lives the “six pack lifestyle” and has helped a guy with horrible genes do the same.
My ab sharpening and fat loss system provides every tool you need, from 15 hours of video footage of me showing you how to perform my 3 day program, 4 day program, 5 day program, 84 day meal plans, 16 week women only programs, home gym workouts, bodyweight workouts, razor sharp cardio workouts, supplement plans and much, much more.
The program is personally designed to lose your gut, sharpen your abs and get you into the best shape of your life. I’ve personally never found a program that guaratees you’ll lose 1% of your body fat each and every week - if someone is serious about getting a six pack then come and get it!
